    I am using the following shortcode: [ngg_images album_ids=”6″ display_type=”photocrati-nextgen_basic_compact_album”]

However, I did not see any shortcode to add in the caption below the thumbnail in this setup. Is this possible?

In the earlier versions of the plugin I would override the .php file to show the caption. If a shortcode is not possible what would be the override file?

@verdipro – First off, is there a reason you are not using the ATP to insert your album(s)?

Otherwise, you would likely need to create a custom template for you to accomplish what you want to (which should still be accessible via the ATP as well).

@photocrati when I started using the plugin it was before the ATP so I left previous gallery posts as they were using the shortcodes.

If I switch over to ATP will that allow me to use the captions? If so I can definitely switch it over no problem at all.

I see the page here: https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/attach-to-post-interface-vs-dashboard-interface/ that I can reference as far as the setup goes.

But generally speaking the way I was using it was loading each album separately so that 1 thumbnail showed up on the main page in the compact view. Once clicked it would show multiple thumbnail photos (up to 20) that can be enlarged for viewing. And when I did add in a custom code to pull the caption that was showing up as well.

But if ATP solves all this than I can certainly switch over.

@verdipro – That reads like our basic Album setup …

For example, create your album to contain the gallery. Choose the preview image for the album out of the gallery and then insert the gallery.

You may need to set your default Basic Thumbnails to use the “caption” template under Gallery > Other Options > Gallery Settings > NextGEN Basic Thumbnails … Template. This is also what I was referring when I wrote custom template.

It may not necessarily sort out your previous gallery posts but it should may future posts works more smoothly.

@photocrati thanks for all the info.

In reference to: You may need to set your default Basic Thumbnails to use the “caption” template under Gallery > Other Options > Gallery Settings > NextGEN Basic Thumbnails … Template. This is also what I was referring when I wrote custom template.

I do not see “Gallery Settings”. Is that in the pro version? If so let me know & I can grab that. In my version I do not see that. I have 7 other options on that page but thats not one of them.

@verdigo – My bad, Gallery Settings is directly under the Gallery menu item. Do you see it there?
