Community profiles/directory

Hi. I’m setting up a blog for machinima producers and similar. One of the features I’d like to implement is a member’s directory with extended information.
The idea is anyone can join, when they do so ( or when they edit their profile) they can check a series of boxes detailing what they do e.g designer, voice actor actress ( perhaps here separated by gender and voice type), as well as links to their site and work.

The profile would be viewable if I click their name on blog comments, or via a directory separated by category. So If I needed an actor for example I’d be able to go into a directory and see a list of all the actors.

Currently I am aware of a plug in that allows extended profiles, and a standard links directory. But I can’t currently find exactly what I need.
Any suggestions?
