    hi all

was helping my gf with updating plugins which, we noticed, resulted in the loss of Comments functionality on her blog which manifests as follows:

when you press on Comment link at the bottom of each post, Comment box/link doesn’t open, the only things what happens is that “#respond” is appended to the URL (e.g. /sample-post/#respond)

So, you cannot add Comments nor can your read/see the comments that have been left already, except see, say, “3 Comments”

    Example blog post:
    https://www.happywhispers.lv/ziedo-dod-pieci/
(scroll down to see the Comment options which has stopped working)

I only updated several plugins (Akismet, Simple Instagram, Polylang, Really Simple Share plus 1 or 2 more), no other changes to the Settings or elsewhere were made

I’ve looked around here and elsewhere for similar issues/solutions to no avail.. Any ideas, as to how this could be fixed (other than updating WP/Theme)? We haven’t done it yet as a) we experienced the above issue to begin with b) we need to sort out the backup options first.

WordPress 4.1.7 running Isabelle theme. (Current WP version is 4.7)
Theme Isabelle version 14.05 installed (Current theme version is 16.07)

I’d appreciate if someone could suggest some solution (other than update)

There’s a JS error on your page that may be related:

Uncaught TypeError: $(...).colorbox is not a function
        at HTMLDocument.<anonymous> ((index):87)
        at j (jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:2)
        at Object.fireWith [as resolveWith] (jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:2)
        at Function.ready (jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:2)
        at HTMLDocument.J (jquery.js?ver=1.11.1:2)

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

Also, you’re on “WordPress 4.1.7”? Really? You need to update. “Other than to update” is not a reasonable position.

For backup, I strongly recommend BackWPUp.

    Hi Steve..
Thanks a lot for your prompt reply. I’ll look into your solution proposal. With regards to being on the old WP version – I was told it’s to do with the hosting company charging for the backup, so she’s been putting it off, and therefore hasn’t updated WP yet, so with “other than to update” I was just looking for some temp fix until we do update…

backwpup has nothing to do with your hosting, so there should be no cost involved.
