• Hello

I really hope someone can help me with this. I have searched high and low on the internet and still found no fix for this.

The comments section isn’t showing on any of my posts.

I have checked the ‘allow comments’ in the discussion box on the edit post page and the ‘Allow people to post comments on new articles’ within the settings menu.

I’ve also tried deactivating all plugins to see if they’re affecting it, but still the same issue.

I have contacted the theme author about it but they told me it’s a WordPress issue.

Please help me understand how to fix this.

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Barry ????

That’s an odd one. I can see you’re using the Shapely theme so I’ve taken a look at the code just to confirm that the theme support comments – it does. I know that’s an odd thing to consider but their demo doesn’t have any, so it got me wondering!

Now, are you using any third-part comments software? Jetpack has its own comment system, for example.

One thing I did notice, or rather didn’t, when I looked at your site code was the lack of any commenting code at all – not even some empty output. Going back to the theme code, it will only even attempt to show comments if there is either a comment available OR comments are switched on. But as you definitely have them switched on the latter should always come into play and so there should be.. something.

Tbh, you’ve tried most of the things I’d suggest. One more thing – what happens if you try another theme? Say, Twenty Seventeen. Does commenting work on that?

Hey, thanks for looking into this for me.

Yeah, it’s really odd. I’m not using any 3rd party comments software. And I did try deactivating all plugins anyway but that didn’t’t help.

I just installed wpDiscuz to see if that would work but unfortunately not.

I haven’t switched to another theme because I was worried it would mess up the website.

I really don’t know what to do. Do you think I should just see if I can hire a web developer to see if they can add comments functionality in?

I think we need to try the theme option – switching themes won’t affect your existing one. As soon as you switch back to it, all will be restored to how you had it (theme settings remain with the theme itself). It will just mean, in the brief moment you’re running another theme, your site will show with that.

Just switched to the twenty nineteen theme, but still no comments section ??

When did this start happening? Had you done something just before this?

Tbh, I can’t ever remember seeing any comments section. I only created the website a few months ago.

    So, unrelated to any update.

I think the theme author may be right – with all plugins deactivated and another theme, it’s still doing it. The settings are right (did you want to put up a screenshot of your Settings -> Discussion so that we can double check?).

I think all that’s left is to suggest a re-install of WordPress. As WP 5.0 is now out, it may be a good idea to download that and start from scratch, albeit exporting your current content out and then importing it to the new build.

I’m happy to post a screenshot in here but I’m not sure how. Doesn’t seem to be an option.

I’m really a novice at all this stuff. How do export and re-import all my content? and the re-install WordPress?

In the Tools menu there are export and import option – use it to export your current content, rebuild your WordPress and then use Tools -> Import to bring your content back again.

Screenshots will be down to your OS and what software you have. If you’re using Chrome, I use the Awesome Screenshot add-on.

Thanks for the info about importing and exporting content. I guess I’ll have to try that.

Same issue… I’m shocked… Seems like many users have this issue, but no solution.
