• Since I’ve upgraded to latest version of wp, comments by all site visitors are posted as anonymous, with the username, site url or email info stripped off. Comments by me, when logged in, are always posted with the user details from the profile, no matter how I fill in the comment form.

I understand there’s a problem with my template. What should I change in it to prevent this annoying behaviour from happening?

Oops, I forgot to mention that it’s not the default template I’m talking about, but a template based on what I previously used with 1.2.

check that a new user with the name”.” {period or dot whatever u’d like to call it} has been created in the users section. remove this new user and then everything shall work fine

I’m desperate, because I did what Anat says and the problem persists. And shouldn’t any new users be created in the first place?

In fact, it seems to have solved the problem with the anonymouses (I wasn’t logged out), but when logged in, it keeps inserting the info from the profile.

yep okay, the new wordpress picks up the info from ur profile when u r logged in- it is a feature, so it would be better if you modify the default theme so that it resembles ur customised layout.
Do activate the default theme accompanying wordpress and then u shall be able to see that there is a “logout” link right next to the comment form if u r logged in. include this link in ur customised theme.
The “.” user is a bug in the current wordpress version, so it was necessary to be removed and now hopefully ur other problem shall be solved too.
