Comments, pingbacks, trackbacks turned off; pingback spam keeps coming

I have comments, pingbacks and trackbacks turned off — I’ve even double-checked to make sure — and still the pingback spam keeps coming.

I had pingbacks enabled for a while as some like-minded bloggers who appreciated my work were linking to my site, but as the pingback spam increased, I was forced to turn pingbacks off.

Needless to say, I’ve had settings requiring comment authors to register, login, and supply a name and email switched on since the blog was first installed, along with always requiring admin approval/holding comments/pingbacks for moderation (even though I’ve not enabled commenting since this blog was installed in November of ’09).
