• Not fully sure when it disappeared, but I’ve just noticed that my most recent pages do not have a field for people to add comments. I use Suffusion theme and this has always added a comments option to posts in the top R/H corner (next to the ‘edit’ button if viewed as logged in admin)

‘Comments’ field is still shown in the dashboard, and I can add comments myself from the dashboard (I thought, as a work around, this might generate a ‘comments’ field for users, but it didn’t.) I’ve read a few old threads where people have had the same issue, but none of the solutions seem relevant, and I don’t have access to the php file to edit it even if it did seem relevant!

I’ve posted a link to my site below. If you look at, say, the ‘current projects’ tab you can see the comments option, whereas the ‘Tunbridge Wells Readers’ tab doesn’t have it, and neither do new pages I’ve added and linked. New posts added to the blog or to pages that have existing comment options retain them, so it seems it’s unlikely to be ‘missing code’ in the template / theme (?)

Any help greatly appreciated, and here’s the site link: https://tunbridgewellswriters.org.uk/

  • Well, I do know that with v4.3, comments are turned off by default for new posts/pages so you may need to edit the post/page and make sure that comments are in fact enabled for it.

Oh, make sure in the Screen Options for the post editor that Discussion is checked so that you can see the Comments option.

    Hi,
Check discussion and comments checkboxes are checked in screen options when you edit or create a new post.

Hi Mark and Umesh – thanks for feedback, but I don’t appear to have the post editor check boxes you’re talking about… There’s a drop down panel at the top of the editor called ‘Screen Options’ but it says ‘additional screen options for suffusion’. Both discussion and comments checkboxes are ticked (and always have been) but there’s still no ‘comments’ option in the online page.

If there’s another ‘Screen Options’ relating to WordPress how do I access it?

Further to above… thanks fellas. Though the solution wasn’t quite as simple as suggested I’ve ‘found’ the allow comments and pingbacks fields right at the bottom of the editor. They weren’t there previously, but by toggling jetpack’s comments box on and off they miraculously reappeared! Now only have to remember to toggle them with each post! ??

    Hi,
I have a similar problem, but the difference is that i have never seen the comment box in my site. I use Foodie Pro theme and I’m pretty sure it must be somewhere in the options, but I’m not able to make it appear. Someone says that some plugins gives this kind of problems. Thank you for your help.
