Comments on posts work erratically {SOLVED}

    Manually added posts allowed comments, but existing (imported) ones did not. The message Leave a Comment was displayed on each post, but clicking it just redisplayed the post.

    Eventually discovered that posts imported from Blogger were not set to allow comments.

    Solution is to edit the posts using Quick Edit or Bulk Edit; both contain a field to allow comments on each individual post.
