comments on blog when disabled!

I have disabled the web blog on our website via hosting site (about a year ago) but have now started to receive constant spam comments. I’ve been onto wordpress and short of deleting pages (which I don’t really want to do as we may want to reacxtivate in the future) there seems to be no way to deactivate it – Help!!! I have no idea why we are suddenly receiveing these spam comments – does it mean security is compromised?
