    Hello,

my AMP pages only display a “Leave a comment” button, while my canonical pages display the whole comment tree at the bottom, along with the form.

I’m using reader mode which I find perfect for my needs, except that it doesn’t display comments.
Is there a way to show the comments in the AMP reader template?

I’m using WPDiscuz if that matters.

    Thanks!

  • @sifro The “Leave a comment” feature in reader mode connects with the native WordPress commenting tool. After checking your site I can see you are using an amp compatible theme, so why not switch to transitional mode and see if WPDiscuz works as normal? Reader mode provides a basic amp valid theme/layout – more suited for themes that are not amp compatible.

I can’t guarantee WPDiscuz will work as normal in amp by default, I couldn’t find much information other than a few support topics raised by others. You can check with the developer, and I will check the plugin myself once time allows.

@sifro After checking WPDiscuz I can see comments are displaying fine in transitional mode although adding comments is not possible. You can submit a support question with the developer or enquire about future AMP compatibility.

If you want to remain using reader mode but would like to remove the native comments section which you are not using then you can create copy of the reader mode template from the plugin:
    wp-content/plugins/amp/templates/meta-comments-link.php

You can copy that file to a newly created folder called amp in your active themes directory, and within that file remove the comments feature.

Hi James, thanks a lot for your answers and efforts!

I really like the simplicity of the reader mode so the first thing I’ll try will be to use meta-comments-link.php to actually display the comments – without the form or like buttons or other features of wpdiscuz – in a very simple way (BTW, if you know any ready-made templates for this, let me know).

If it doesn’t work, I’ll try to use my theme native AMP capabilities – but I had already seen that there are some issues.

    Thanks again!
