    Hi,

I am setting up my own Nutrition blog and wanted to ask when somebody puts a comment on one of my post i can see this when i go to Comments however is there a way to modify it so that when it is posted i get a notification sent to my email and decide to approve or allow the comment?

The reason i ask is because if someone puts a comment i have to manually go to my WordPress dashboard and go to Comments and manually click either approve or trash.

You can do that in dashboard:
    Dashboard – settings – Discussion – Email me whenever…

    Hi,

Thanks for the update, i just tested when i post a test comment it automatically updates the page with the comment and sends me it to my email. Do you know if i can change it so that after they post the comment, i can then decide to approve or reject and if i approve then it gets shown on my page?

You can set comments to auto-publish for users who have several comments previously approved.

You can also run Akismet to automatically delete really bad spam leaving questionable posts in the queue and then your otherwise ‘okay’ posts just waiting for approval. After a time the above will reduce your workload for comments.

You can tell WordPress to email you about moderated comments.

All of this except Akismet is set in Dashboard –> Settings –> Discussion

There’s probably a plugin or two available to further tweak comment actions. I just never have looked.

After doing some more test, after enabling “Email me whenever: Anyone posts a comment ” when i post a test comment it does not go into my email address. Other than this option is there any other settings i need to look at to ensure a copy is sent to my email?

I don’t have Akismet because i noticed you have to pay for a personal subscription.

Am i right in saying that even though the setting “Dashboard – settings – Discussion – Email me whenever…” is selected i won’t be able to receive an email notification until i have a plugin installed to enable this?

I have had a word with my host and they did some test and when they post a comment on one of my blogs there does not seem to be a problem on their side, i can see that in the dashboard but i still can’t get any email notification when a comment is posted onto my blog.

I have to manually go to wordpress and check the Comments section and decide to move to trash or approve it which is not really ideal. It would be nice to get an email notification sent to my address so i know when somebody has posted a comment.

Can anybody else provide any suggestions? Or if somebody can recommend a free plugin i can use to notifiy me of when a comment is posted that i can use to approve or reject.

i think the problem is server sending the auto notification from wordpress website. You have to try with 3rd party plugin like WP Mail SMTP, and you have to ask the hosting support to complete the configuration.

    Hi griyamitra,

Thanks i’ve downloaded the plugin and set it up with the support page and after testing when post a comment on my blog i still don’t receive any email notification. Does my hosting site need to something on there end?

I’ll also post a question on WP Mail SMTP by WPForms for assistance.
    Thanks
