• Hi,

I am relatively new to WordPress and have designed a site for a family member.

It’s mostly pages with a Mingle Community plugin and forum and a blog page. I am having a couple of problems.

Firstly the comments are not working on the blog page – when you click on the comments under the post it doesn’t do anything. This is my main problem and I am wondering if I have changed something I shouldn’t when I was re-styling the theme. The link is https://www.theguardianschronicles.com/blog/.

My second problem is that the feed button isn’t working. Now I don’t know anything about feeds so don’t really know how they should work but when I click it it goes to https://www.theguardianschronicles.com/feed/ and I get a page saying the feed isn’t working.

I used the theme called simplicitybright if that helps any.

Your help would be much appreciated.

    Regards Margaret

  • My second problem is that the feed button isn’t working.

You have a whole chunk of whitespace at the top of your RSS feed which is invalidating the feed. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

You may find that these solve some of your other problems as well.

    Hi Esmi,

    Thanks for that.

As I’m sure you noticed I did manage to find out why the comments weren’t working myself after I had sent my first message.

Regarding the RSS feed however, it would seem that it is something I’ve done or changed that I shouldn’t have when I was changing the theme as when I tried one of the other themes that were installed the RSS worked. Is there something you could recommend that I check to try and get it working again?

    Thank you again.

    Regards Margaret

    Hi again,

Apart from the RSS feed not working, since changing the theme and putting back my own I am now getting error messages when I try to re-activate the plugins as follows:

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/gbarlow/public_html/www.theguardianschronicles.com/wp-content/themes/guardians-chronicles/functions.php:3) in /home/gbarlow/public_html/www.theguardianschronicles.com/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 934

When I refresh the browser it is actually activating the plugin.

    Can you please help.

    Regards Margaret

Many thanks for your help so far.

The RSS feed still isn’t working. It would seem that it is something I’ve done or changed that I shouldn’t have when I was changing the theme as when I tried one of the other themes that were installed the RSS worked. Is there something you could recommend that I can check to try and get it working again?

I have done as you asked and tried deactivating all plugins, changing to Twenty Eleven and resetting the plugin folder but it hasn’t solved the problem I’m afraid.

You still have a whole chunk of whitespace at the top of your RSS feed which is invalidating the feed. Can we see the site using Twenty Eleven and all plugins deactivated?

    Hi Esmi,

Have activated Twenty Eleven and all plugins are now deactivated.

And your feed is now working.

    Hi Esmi,

Yes I know and so are the comments. I know that it is something I have changed on the theme that I shouldn’t have but as I have no idea what it could be I wondered if you had any suggestions of what it could be or where I should look. I have tried looking on the forum and elsewhere for answers but nothing has been of any use.

    Can you help please.

    Regards Margaret

    Hi Esmi,

I just thought I would let you know that I have managed to get the feed up and running at last.

Thank you again for all your help.

    Regards Margaret

Anybody figure out the comment issue? I tried deactivating my plugins, but it didn’t have any effect… I also checked my comment.php and some of the other templates and didn’t see anything.

    also the website is wmlm.co
