Comments Missing after 5.5 update

  • Hi all. I’m having a problem with a heavily modified TwentyTen theme first made in 2014 I believe. After 5.5 was installed the comment section on all my posts have disappeared. The comments form is still there an people can leave comments, but the comments section itself is invisible. I installed the “Enable jQuery Migrate Helper” plugin and flushed my cache, but there was no change. I’m really only good at modifying stuff based on need, tutorials, and theft. I have no idea how to debug something I did 6 years ago. Anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks!

    This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

    If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

    I removed all plugins and nothing changed. I tried copying over some of the new TwentyTen HTLM over to my theme and was only able to get a response count to show up (https://trekcomic.com/comic/2020-08-04/), but not the comments themselves. It’s doesn’t make a drop of sense because the code is there. The php call is correct, and yet they aren’t showing. I’d really like to not have to rebuild a theme from scratch. Any more help would be gratefully appreciated.
