Comments Incorrectly Blocked for Rate Limiting (data submitted too often)

Hello,

We have started seeing post comments being blocked here for rate limiting, with the following error:

*** Forbidden. Data submitted too often. Please wait a few minutes. ***

The strange thing is this is happening on users who haven’t even been posting lately. I need to learn more about this feature and how it can be controlled.

Is there any way to customize the rate limiting?
Do you know how long it will block someone when the threshold is reached?

This is a powerful feature, but with no control over it could cause lots of problems, like we’re having right now. I’d hate to have to disable spam protection on comments completely because of this.

To reiterate, this is happening on users who logged in and posted for the first time in a single day. That should not be happening.

This feature could use some common sense controls such as:

How many posts in a certain time frame before rate-limited (being able to choose the number of posts and the time frame).

How long the user is blocked for.
