    Hello, at our site at https://www.asylantenvergewaltigung.de I would like to allow people to leave comments. If I check under ‘screen options’, I can see that ‘allow comments’ and ‘allow discussion’ is ticked on each and every page, also under ‘Discussion Settings’ but still there is no option to leave comments. I even copied the code from the single.php to the page.php which did′t work either. What am I doing wrong?
    As info: when I first installed the twenty eleven theme this function worked all right. Than I changed my Start Page to a static one, deleted the Blog page. Afterwards the blog page was created under “News”. I am not aware at which point of time the funtion ceased to work.

    I tried with other themes, there the comments function didn′t work either

  • Under Settings > Discussion, “Allow people to post comments on new articles” under Default Settings should be checked.

    Then, for each page or post, make sure Discussion and Comments are both checked under Screen Options. (Seems you have done that).

    Now that you can see them on the screen, make sure that Allow Comments in checked per page or post.

    This feature is no longer enabled automatically. You have to check each one.

    As for your issue deleting the “/blog” page. If you have a static home page, then under reading, the home page should be set to that page, and the posts page should be set to “News.” It doesn’t matter that the “Blog” page was deleted. It’s just a page like any other page. When you assign a page as the posts page, if there was content on the page, it should not longer be viewable and the page should inherit all posts.

    I looked at the source code and I can see the div for comments on the page. I would disable all plugins and see if there is a conflict first. I would also check my permissions on all files and folders and make sure your file permissions are correct on your server.

    I did all that before, especially I did:

    “I would disable all plugins and see if there is a conflict first. I would also check my permissions on all files and folders and make sure your file permissions are correct on your server.”

    The only thing that solved the problem was to install “one click comments” plugin. Then I was able to turn the comments back on again.

    I guess I should mark this topic as resolved, even if it actually wasn′t. Using a plugin to solve a basic WP- function does not actually count….

    @andreas

    I can’t imagine why that is happening. When I looked at the comments div in view source, there was nothing between the opening and closing div on the homepage that references comments.

    I can’t imagine why you’d have to install a plugin to activate it.

    Did you try and switch themes to another core WordPress theme that comes with WordPress to see if it’s working on, for example, twenty fourteen and not on twenty twelve?

    Yes I tried out several themes, not a single one was working
