comments, even if comments are disabled

I’m getting comment spam, even though I have comments disabled on all of my posts. (Yes, ALL – there’s only five of them, so it’s easy to check.)

It appears that under WP 1.5, turning off comments simply turns off the visible link to post comments – however, it does not turn off the ability to post comments if you know the correct URL and syntax for the POST.

Since spammers aren’t clicking links, but using automated tools, they couldn’t care less whether there’s a link allowing them to post. Thus, spam, even though comments are turned off.

This seems like a pretty serious issue to me…
