Comments dissapear once user clicks post

    When users on my site post a comment it says “submitting comment” but the comment never makes it to the site. It seems to be a new issue as i have some comments that worked earlier.

    Just wondering if this is a common issue or if someone can point me in the right direction.

    I’m running version 3.8 with twenty fourteen theme and have buddypress installed also.

    It seems to be a new issue as i have some comments that worked earlier.

    have you recently installed any new plugins/themes?

    No not since in between them working and not.

    As a precautionary measure I had deactivated all my plugins and anyway and tested again and It didn’t fix it.

    I had a buddypress theme in use so reverted back to a standard one and no joy either

    Go to Settings -> Discussion and see if you have checked/unchecked:

    “Users must be registered and logged in to comment”
    “Allow people to post comments on new articles”

    Is the default setting for new users ‘subscriber’, and do you let subscribers post comments?

    Did you add/activate any comment-related plug-ins recently?

    If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, then try:

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    The reset of the plugins seems to have worked but i have another issue now which i’ll post up separately. Thanks for the help Tara.
