    Hello,

I just upgraded to 4.4.1 and it made all of the comments disappear on my site: https://www.fridaynewsletter.com. The comments are still visible in the admin view and there is a number indicating that there are comments, however, there is no way to view them or make new comments.

I am using the Lambda theme and I have tried de-activating and activating the plug ins but it does not work.

Have seen similar posts about this topic which makes me think this is a 4.4 issue.

  • Did you try switching themes to the default Twenty-Sixteen theme and see if the issue persists?

I have 4.4.1 and since installing it, I do not get emails when someone leaves a comment on my blog. I also have widget where someone can leave me a msg requesting to purchase my book and i used to get that email, now I do not.?? I have tried several tests myself and I never get the email?

But, did you try switching themes to the default Twenty-Sixteen theme and see if the issue persists?
Youir problem may be related to the Lambda theme, so to eliminate that option, switch the theme, and if it still persists, then it is not a theme issue. Therefore you have eliminated one option to the problem and it can be narrowed down even further.

When I recv’d your email I was in the process of switching to WP’s new 2016 theme. I went to the “Contact Me” widget, sent a test email, and it was not recv’d. So I can assume it is not a theme issue, perhaps something in the set up that got changed; I used to get the emails from [email protected] address if that means anything????

Actually, it could be a simple as, in your dashboard, go to Settings > Discussion and see if the two options under “Email me whenever” are checked.

Thank you for responding. I switched the theme to Twenty – Sixteen but it did not correct the problem. I feel like something must have been erased when I upgraded. Is there a way to revert back to the older version of WP?

Neo, I checked and yes both of those boxes were/are checked. Where does “Bluehost come from? Is that WP? Sorry, I am a dummy when it comes to this stuff. I have to get my grandson to help me with my IPhone 4 at times….I’m afraid to upgrade.

I hadn’t noticed (…late nights), but bathurst, you have interjected into Viablemkts thread, which only confuses the issue. You should have posted your own topic as per Forum Welcome: Where To Post.

So, please do so, so that I can concentrate on Viablemkts problem only. Being as your host, theme, plugins, etc. are more than likely different than Viablemkts, the solution arrived at here may not solve your particular issue. Feel free to follow this thread, but pleasee do not post.

    @Viablemkts

In your dashboard, go to Settings > Discussion and see if the two options under “Email me whenever” are checked.

if they are, then we may have to replace certain directories and files of your WordPress installation, which I will guide you through.

I followed your instructions. Only the “Anyone posts a comment” option was checked. Not both.

    Let me regroup…

    – You upgraded to 4.4.1 and it made all of the comments disappear
    – comments are still visible in the admin view and there is a number indicating that there are comments
    – there is no way to view them or make new comments.
    – You have tried de-activating and activating the plugins but it does not work
    – You switched to Twenty – Sixteen but it did not correct the problem
    – the “Anyone posts a comment” option was checked

    First…

You have tried de-activating and activating the plugins but it does not work

Did you deactivate ALL the plugins at the same time or just one plugin at a time, tun it back on and deactivate another, and so on?

Then, the next option is to replace certain files and folders in your WordPress install.

Can you access your WordPress install through either:
    – your Hosting Account > cPanel > File Manager
    or
    – an FTP client such as Filezilla?

@neotechnomad, thank you for helping me out, but I had to go to the developer I hired for the website to fix the problem. Here is what he said:

“WordPress 4.4.1 did make a fix to a function we used to setup the comments, so the way we were allowed to use it previously has changed. I launched the correction on your site”

Good. Then the issue is solved and you can mark this thread “Resolved”.
