I’m not sure if I’ve got a problem or if WP is working the way it’s supposed to.

I’ve got a site where comments are automatically stopped after 30 days. That’s fine, and it works great. But here’s the problem…

Some of these posts get dozens and dozens of comments. Pages of them, in some cases. But once the comment thread is shut down, only a few remain visible. The rest just “disappear.” There’s no way to access them whatsoever.

So my question is this: Is this working the way it’s supposed to work, or is there a problem? In other words, after you shut off comments, should all the old comments remain visible?

It seems to me they should, and I think I recall that it worked like that once. But it’s not working that way now, at least on this one site.

Input and comments would be very welcome. Thanks very much.

No, all of the existing comments should still be visible, even with commenting disabled.

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue.

    Hey James!

OK. Good. I’m not crazy. I thought all the comments should be visible, but I wasn’t sure if maybe something had changed.

I suspect this is a theme issue, but I’ll get to the bottom of it somehow.

Thanks so much for the prompt, helpful feedback.

    Regards,
    Karl
