• I don’t know how long this has been an issue, but I just recently discovered it. Anytime someone tries to comment on a post, the comment submits but then it doesn’t show up. It doesn’t show up on the page or the dashboard. It just disappears. This occurs in multiple browsers with multiple users.

The last comment made was in May 2013. I’m not sure how long since then that the issue has existed.

BTW the link to my blog is

What happens when you yourself (admin) log in and try to post a comment?

Go to Settings -> Discussion and see if you have checked/unchecked:

“Users must be registered and logged in to comment”
“Allow people to post comments on new articles”

Is the default setting for new users ‘subscriber’, and do you let subscribers post comments?

Did you add/activate any comment-related plug-ins over the summer?

when I try to post a comment as admin nothing happens.

Both of those boxes are checked.

Yes, the default setting for new users is “Subscriber”.

I want to let subscribers post comments…I’m not sure if I’ve disabled that. It sure wasn’t my attention if I did. Where is that setting located? I can’t seem to find it.

I haven’t activated any comment related plug-ins, but that doesn’t mean that another plug-in might not be messing with the comments.

I’m trying to remember what plug-ins I might have activated this summer. I have two that have to do with creating series, but I think that’s all.

Strange that the admin can’t post a comment. And you said that your admin comment doesn’t even show up in the dashboard Comments section like it’s awaiting moderation?

How about in Settings -> General, is the “anyone can register” box clicked? Individual post preferences can overrule some general settings; so go to your Posts page and click on “Quick Edit” under a post title. Is the “Allow comments” box checked?

You’re using TwentyTen and Jetpack; those are pretty well supported. In case it is a plug-in issue, try disabling them one by one and trying to submit a comment after each one.

yes…There are no comments awaiting moderation.

    Anyone can register is clicked.

Allow Comments is checked under individual posts.

looks like I’m going to go through Plug-ins now….

UNless someone has a better idea.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

so it appears the issue is with Jetpack….I deactivated it and reactivated it.

    That appeared to resolve it.

Any ideas why that would happen?

    (@dparunak)

so I’m having the same issue this morning.

I deactivated Jetpack and a comment posted just fine.

    Then I reenabled Jetpack.

    And it worked…

only a matter of time until it breaks again???

    Thread Starter dparunak

    (@dparunak)

so now it seems like it’s a browser issue…maybe a Jetpack compatibility issue???

Anything I do on Chrome seems to work fine.

Anything I do on Firefox or Safari seems to break.

    Ideas?

    Thread Starter dparunak

    (@dparunak)

I don’t know what the issue is but I’m pretty sure it’s a Jetpack/browser issue. I’m going to test some more, but Chrome seems to work fine everytime. Safari and Firefox work sometimes and don’t work others.

When a comment is submitted, “Submitting Comment…” is displayed in all three browsers.

In Chrome, it is there until the comment appears on the page.

In the other two browsers, it disappears. If it reappears quickly, then the comment will post correctly. If it disappears and never comes back, then the comment doesn’t post. I”m not sure at what point Jetpack fails to the point that I have to restart it.

    Any ideas from anyone?

so now I have disabled jetpack…and it works flawlessly…

Is Jetpack broken? Or could it be something else?
