Comments and spam

  • I have a WP site I created for a client which is a business and not a blog. It has pages, which have content about the business [a pub] but none of the pages have a Comment button, and there are no Posts. Just the fixed pages.
    It is getting horrendous quantities of spam, all listed as Comments and identified as spam – most are over a page long, and contain hundreds of linked URLs; Loius Vuiton, Nike etc. same old stuff. Several hundred in just a few days, thousands if I leave it a couple of weeks. How are they doing it? How can anyone leave a comment when there is no Comment button?
    I can delete them, but it takes time and is an unnecessary housekeeping chore I don’t want. Can anyone can tell me how to stop them coming?
