• Hi,

I’ve trawled the forums but am still stuck. I can set comments to show up on all my pages except one which I have set to post my blogs to. The other pages are static pages. This blog page does not allow comments (the comments box just doesn’t appear) nor do the individual posts that I publish on that page, and this is really the only place I want them.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? I am a bit of a novice and am really feeling my way here but most other topics I’ve sorted via the forums. This I am stuck on and would really appreciate any help.

The site in question is https://www.mattdeanworld.co.uk and it’s the drumblogs page that I want comments on for each indidual post.

    Thanks inadvance of any help,

    Matt

You don’t get ‘comments’ on the page that lists your blog posts. You can only comment on individual posts and pages.

    Hi Ipstenu,

Thanks for the reply. Right, that makes sense as there is nothing in that page so I assumed it just acts as a host for the posts to be published in. But I really hoped I could have comments at the bottom of each post. I have ticked ‘allow comments’ in the admin for those posts. I have tried looking in scripts as and when I’ve read bits of forum chat that suggest doing so but it’s a little over my head. Any ideas as to whether I can have comments at the end of a post and if so, why it’s not working for me?

You can have comments for each post, but ONLY on the individual post pages.

https://www.mattdeanworld.co.uk/drumblog – This is a page that lists blog posts so you can’t have a comment ON that page (the loop to do that would be WAY too intensive).

If you click on the title of those posts, they’re SUPPOSED to take you to a new page, but it looks like your theme is screwed up.

    https://www.transformationpowertools.com/wordpress/front-page-comments-wordpress-blog

it enables comments on these multi-post pages – but has limitations, as comment pagination for instance will not work.
there is probably a good reason why this is not allowed by default.

    Hi Ipstenu,

Thanks for that info. Now I understand how it should work. I just need to look into why my theme is screwed up and doesn’t allow the posts to open their own pages. I really appreciate that as I didn’t even know they should do this being so new to all this. Maybe I should contact the theme designers.

    Thanks,

    Matt

Yeah. It slows your server down. A lot. If you have a lot of posts and comments, no way do you want this.

    mattcdean – That’s a good idea.

Thanks to both of you, you’re very kind. You’ve pointed me in the right direction and i’ve got the posts to open in seperate pages now by changing the single post script. I just need to get the sidebar on the right hand side but at least it’s functioning ok for now.

    I’m very grateful.

    Matt

You can choose allowing comments or not in the different pages/posts by Quick Editing Pages/Posts… you can guide yourself with this image, there will be an option to check or uncheck allowing posts.

    It should work for you…thanks.

    Hi Afner03,

Thanks for that. I was already aware of that aspect but my comments were not allowed as the posts needed to open in seperate windows, which they now do thanks to advice from this forum.

I just can’t sort out the side menu as it appears on the left when the rest of the sight shows it on the right. If you know how to fix that i’d be really grateful if you let me know, but it’ll do for now as it is.

    Thanks for your help,

    Matt

Oh Ok Matt, sorry I didnt get the idea, sometimes the little details are difficult to figure out in wordpress. I will try to look into another forum, that I think I saw something similar, and if its there will let you know.

    Thanks!

Thank you, thank you affner03 – I’ve been searching everywhere for this info: Codex, Help, Forums, Dashboard, Page Attributes, Settings, Comments etc to find out where the ‘Comments Allowed’/’Not Allowed’ options were.

I’ve never used or explored the Quick Edit option because I always click ‘Edit’ when I want to Edit a page or post. Why would you choose anything other than ‘Edit’ when you want to edit something?? And why would anyone logically click Quick Edit when they want to change the settings of a page or post? It doesn’t make any sense.

If wp decides to bury this very useful option so deep you can’t find it even after much searching, why don’t the Codex or Help sections, or Page Options or Settings>Comments include this info in any of their search results that have ‘Comments’ or ‘Comments Allowed’ or’Page Attributes’ as keywords.
