I’m logged on to my WordPress website using Google Chrome.

Then, same computer, I switch over to Internet Explorer where I am not logged on to WordPress, and leave a comment under a different identity and email address. The comment then awaits moderation.

I switch back over to Google Chrome, where I am still logged in to WordPress, and, as admin, approve the comment.

The problem is that next to the name of the ‘made up’ commenter is my specifically uploaded gravatar for the me, the admin of the WordPress site.

How do I post as a different commenter without the same gravatar showing up betraying my fake commenter identity?

Gravatars are tied to the email address, so make sure that you use a different email address.

If you definitely are, and it sounds like you are, log in at https://en.gravatar.com/ and make sure you have added that other email address under the same Gravatar account.

James, did you mean to make sure that I haven’t added the other email address for the other identity under the same account?

Under the wordpress com account settings for the gravatar it just has the email I use for admin. There doesn’t seem to be a place for another email. It’s just one thin rectangular slot.

It seems like I have to have two separate wordpress com/gravatar to have a separate gravatar picture which is confusing because that would mean that anyone who comments would have my gravatar unless they were registered with wordpresscom/gravatar and had their own gravatar..

    No, that’s not right.

Log in at the Gravatar site, you should see a section where you can list your email addresses. A Gravatar can be tied to multiple email addresses, but this is only clear from the Gravatar site, not the WordPress.com profile.

I suspect that your other email address may have been added to your Gravatar account.

Thanks, James. I added an additional email on Gravatar.

Everything is working as it should now. I’m not sure why earlier a new comment I had made with a new email that wasn’t(at that time) on Gravatar list had my admin avatar accompanying it instead of just the default “mystery person” avatar… but now I have the mystery person for un-Gravatared people a Gravatar for admin(which I always had) and a different Gravatar for a different user with author status.

Excellent, I’m glad it’s working now!
