• I have this, but want this. The eagle-eyed will note the latter is to be found on the 2.6.xx dashboard.

Having failed with multiple attempts I resorted to this from the archive – which is apparently ‘resolved’ but doesn’t work for me, providing only this with the full code from above i.e. no comment text.

Can anyone suggest a different route as I’ve yet to see the ‘comment_excerpt()’ expression working.

    Thanks to all

I’d hoped I was specific enough – but given the lack of detail / interchange I can find for this function I’m not overly surprised no-one replied.

Anyone? – it’s on the dashboard after all…

    Thanks, Bill

So, why don’t you look at the file(s) in the wp-admin to see how was it done?

Because a numpty like me has the impression that wp-admin/index.php doesn’t do it and that it calls on wp-admin/includes/dashboard.php which itself calls up a recent comments widget.

All very cool but it is so ‘nested’ as to be unextractable by said numpty.

I could copy the whole code from dashboard.php to my sidebar (and did try) but whilst not crashing, everthing remained blank as if the code was not there, multiple modification attempts lose the sidebar.

    Sorry for that…
