• I hope this is the proper place to post my message.

I use WordPress for a Website. I just realized that outsiders can access the blog version (the page that shows the comment section) by typing the right words into the URL. (Specifically, the domain name plus the headline after the ‘/’.)

This allows spammers to post comments. How can I prevent this? I don’t mind if the comment section shows up while I’m in Admin mode, but I don’t want it viewable to the public at all. Is there a solution?

    Thanks!

    Tom

  • there are two basic areas in the dashboard to disable comments:

    ‘settings’ ‘discussion’
(changes there are only applied to new posts/pages)

    and
for individual (and existing) posts and pages, the ‘discussion’ area below the post/page editor.
if this is not visible, click the ‘screen options’ tab near the top right of the ‘edit page’ or ‘edit post’ page; then tick the ‘discussion’ tick box; and then scroll down to below the editor, to find the ‘discussion’ area, where you can disable comments

    Thanks for the prompt reply.

I tried your suggestions. It helped a little. Plus, I ticked the one box that says the person must be approved before a comment will show. That should help a lot.
