• Hi,
I set up multisite to enabe friends and family to have their own websites. I don’t want to grant them admin rights to their sites only editor rights. And I want the comments to be moderated. But I noticed that only the admin can moderate them.

Ofcourse I could forward the comment emails so that they can approve the comments. But is there another way, maybe with a plugin?

You could try a user-role plugin and make a new group for Editor Plus (Editors who can approve comments).

That’s true, but how can I set WordPress so that the emails get send to the editor? Or is the only way to make a special email account with a filter and route the admin mails to the admin and the comment mails to the editor?

I thought the notices went to post author but … You can just tell them they need to check in once in a while ?? I turned off email alerts for one server where the guy hated getting them. They work it out.

No, in the settings, reading you can select to be noticed/mailed if there is a comment waiting for moderation. But this is only if you are logged in as administrator.

So this leaves the options of turning it off or the special email account. Too bad.

This is default WordPress behavior. Would work the same on a single WP install with multiple authors.

It is the default. I noticed this but it was never a problem because I never made a website for somebody else. But now with multisite it’s so easy to add another website.

But I’m hesitant to give the ‘editors’ admin rights. The risk is too high that I end up doing ‘repair’ actions.

So I think it would be great to have an option for a blog to send emails to the editor. Don’t you agree?

In a multisite situation, you;re running your own version of wordpress.COM.

Admins of blogs cannot edit or install themes and plugins. there’s very little they can screw up.

They can activate/remove plugins or change a theme. I guess you could restrict the themes available to them.

But still, they could change the theme settings. And too many options scare some people.

Remember not all ‘editors’ are the same. Some people are daily on their websites. Others only occasional and can barely login. I think sometimes you want somebody only to edit things. Then they should get the messages and do some editing but not anything more.

You can lock down access to the plugins menu.
You are the one that installs theme – you can lock down access to the ones available.
