I am helping run a contest and entries are open to user comments within the community. However, on some contest entries (posts), the comment identity fields (name, email, website) are auto-filled with previous commenter info. I’ve logged out, cleared caches, tried across browsers, etc.

It’s not on all contest entries. And I’ve noticed that sometimes the auto-filled comments reset to blank after refreshing several times.

Is this a setting in the Comments or Discussion section? Or is it a bug? Is this due to someone commenting on the post at the same time?

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – if that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Theme (Twenty Seventeen.) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I tried that and it’s not changing the issue at all.

Could this be a caching issue on the host’s end?

It sounds like cache — from plugin, server…

    Try:
Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches. Not just your browser, but any op cache or content network cache as well such as Cloudflare. If you are using SiteLock, manage your caching there.
Flushing Managed host caches. Managed WP hosting often has special caches. If your host has a “Purge Varnish” or “Flush Memcache” tool, try that. You can ask your provider to flush memcache and Varnish for you if necessary.

Great, thank you for the quick feedback. So a few other relevant points:

    1) There are no caching plugins active on this site. My host (Bluehost) was having some technical issues with W3 Total Cache and requested we turn it off, which we did.

    2) This issue has been detected across users. The other operator said users brought it to her attention and sent her a screencap. She replicated the problem and sent me a specific post as an example. I saw it there for about ten minutes and then it disappeared, but I did find it on other URLs.

    3) It seems to be reverting back to a specific subset of commenters for auto-fill. Contest entries typically get 15-20 unique comments, but I keep seeing the pre-fill be the same 3-4 people even if they have not commented on a post (but have definitely commented elsewhere).

    Does that help clarify anything?

Hello, I have the same problem with my site.
You have found a solution to this problem? Or what causes this situation?
Please help me because I do not know what’s going on.

    Thank you.

    Side note to @krystyana84,

If the troubleshooting already posted made no difference for you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. That way you stand a good chance of getting the assistance you want.
