All of a sudden, the comment function stopped working, and it is not getting through, meaning, it either says “server is not connecting” or says “Submitting” but I am not receiving the comments on my side.

I have gone through the plugins step by step. Without Jetpack activated, comment works. Jetpack is connected to WP.com.

I do not have any Facebook plugin that might conflict with it. When I had it before, the comment box disappeared altogether, so deleted it.

    Thank you for your help.

    Howdy,

I checked things out on this end and it looks like your site’s server is rejecting the connection from https://jetpack.wordpress.com (the site that the comment form is actually loaded from and passes the comment on to your site from there).

Could you check with your hosting provider if anything changed on their end that would prevent a connection from WordPress.com or jetpack.wordpress.com?

    Thanks!

    Thank you Brandon.

So, I called them for the third time … but they could not come up with anything they could fix. But, I was told that there was a file missing in the root.

    xmlrpc.php

Also, when the technician tried to comment to test, he got the local address 1.2.7.0.0 or something like that … and he suggested that there is a local configuration issue.

I have no knowledge or skill to go into anything deep with coding. I would appreciate any suggestion or help with this.

Wp is 3.9.1 updated, and I have not touched anything other than adding and deleting a couple of plugins. Should I re-install WP or Jetpack .. ? I have not done it yet to be on the safe side. If you suggest, I will try.

    Thanks.

    Hmm.

That file is present: https://olivetjournal.com/xmlrpc.php so that’s not the issue.

It’s possible there is some setting and/or plugin that is interfering with it. Have you tried with all other plugins disabled?

Like I said in the beginning, I have tried it with all the other plugins disabled.

Without Jetpack on, the comment gets through.

And it was working before with the plugins I currently have.

Sorry for missing that. You can disable just the comments feature via Jetpack->Settings and clicking Deactivate when hovering over the Jetpack Comments line item.

My thought is still there is a server setting that is interfering (perhaps redirecting some xmlrpc.php or wp-post.php incoming requests), but if the host isn’t finding anything, there isn’t much I can do to determine the issue ??

Could it be that “not connecting the server” means not connecting the wordpress.com server, and not my host server?

No. The actual comment form is from WordPress.com and the initial “Submitting Comment” screen is from WordPress.com. During the process, we pass off to your own site (and will continue to say “Submitting Comment”, until the confirmation that the comment was accepted by your site), which is what’s failing for us.

Well … something happened and Jetpack comment is not working …

    That is that.

No one can find the problem that may be causing. Good bye Jetpack comment … ??

My initial thought, before being reminded that you already told me, was a security plugin was rerouting the request.

An alternative place to look is your site’s .htaccess rules, though if it suddenly happened without change by your part, I still lean toward your host changing something.

The settings on our end (where we store the address to pass the comment to once initially processed by Jetpack Comments via jetpack.wordpress.com) match what they should to your site, so something seems to be redirecting the request between our server and the final stop in your WordPress site.

    Sorry :-(.

Makes sense … you are helping me learn how things work .. lol

They did admit that they change things around from time to time for a “security reason” … but still insist that there is nothing they can do … and the same ol’ .. “WordPress is not our product, so we cannot do anything about it …” is what I get.

It is the same even after I told them the whole thing I have done to rule out everything else …. LOL.

For now, I will have to resort to the original comment system with the e-mail and name requirement. No other plugin that is trust worthy for the comment things … I have had real bad experience with anything to do with Facebook … so I will stay away …

Anyway … thank you so much for our help. I will keep checking if it starts working …
