comment counts are all zero

I just upgraded to WP2 on a windows server and after the upgrade, all comment counts say 0. That is, until someone comments, then the comment counts for that post got back to normal.

So, the problem is that on archive pages like this one:

https://www.matthewgood.org/mblog/index.php?tag=united_states&paged=2

All the posts show zero comments, when in fact there are plenty of comments. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?
