    Hello:
Wanted to report a strange behaviour with importing tags with an Excel sheet.
I use a secondary plugin to import all my products . I don’t like nor know how to do it with CSV so work directly with Excel files. As this is not possible with WOO I had to use a third party plugin.

The weird thing is that when I tag a product inside Woo products I have to do it with tags separated with commas. But when I export those they get separated with | (vertical bars) inside my Excel cells. This is not a problem, as I can convert my iptc keywords (Lightroom) separated by commas to separated by |(vertical bars) inside the Excel cell and import correctly to Woo.

What is really strange and found out by accident is that if I leave those tags separated by commas, some products get those tags and the majority don’t . If I do it with |(vertical bars) everything gets imported correctly. It is a strange behavior as it should be 100% or 0% but some products yes and most of them not is weird.

The best would be that Woo would accept separated tags by commas that in my opinion is more standard than | (vertical bars) or both. In any case I wanted to report this strange behaviour

  • Hello,

can you paste a CSV structure what do you import and which product’s get Tags imported and which now. With this we could see which specific products do work.

Secondly, can you tell us which Excel import plugin do you use?

    Hi:
I use a plugin called Product Import Export by Webtoffee.
As I said I do not use CSV as I don’t like them for a number of reason being number one how confusing they look with all those data separated by commas.

I use that plugin because I like to work with Excel where everything is organized and well-structured, with great formulas to retrieve all kinds of data.
I don’t have a clue of how CSV even works . I can convert those to columns and rows with Excel, so I can start working with the data but apart from that, my knowledge of CSV files is close to zero.

OK; can you paste a Excel structure what do you import and which product’s get Tags imported and which now. With this we could see which specific products do work. You could make a screenshot of Excel structure …

    Hi @rokmeglic

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you are using the Product Import Export Plugin for WooCommerce to import your products on your site.

Since this is a third-party plugin which we don’t provide support for (please see our Support Policy here), it would be best reaching out to the plugin’s developers for further assistance here.

All the best and hopefully, the issue will be fixed soon.
