I am new to WordPress. I have installed a WordPress Multisite on my hosting server. I am working on my new blog so I want to put up a launching soon page at www.domain.com/coming-soon, while I work on the blog’s front-end myself.

So the questions is if I would be able to redirect users who visit www.domain.com to www.domain.com/coming-soon and not redirect my own self (my ip address)? Will that be possible in WordPress? How do I do that?

    Thanks.

  • If you want to control it with WordPress (and not have to deal with redirects on server level or IP-addresses), you may want to look into a maintenance plugin.

With those, every normal user will see a “Coming Soon” or maintenance page (you can set that yourself). Though anyone logged in to the WordPress admin, will see the site as it is.

Thanks for your reply. I could use server based redirection too. What would you advice – add the code to .htaccess or just use a maintenance plugin? All I need to do is redirect site visitors except myself.

I would personally use a maintenance plugin. Very easy to control, turn on/off, doesn’t check your IP address (so you can use it anywhere) etc.
