• In the admin, I used to have Comics as custom content but it disappeared, taking all of my comics with them and leaving me with Page Not Founds. Any way to get them back? Thank you for your help.

  • Hi there,

This happened recently to me as well. I uninstalled/reinstalled all plugins and found that the culprit for me was Jetpack. Once I updated to 13.7 (I think), my comics custom post type simply disappeared from my dashboard, essentially breaking my site.

The fix for now is to use Jetpack 13.6.1 and not upgrade the plugin, which is suboptimal of course, but the site is working. My theme is called “Panel” and relies on Jetpack to create the comic functionality but apparently Jetpack has said they are not reverting back, so once I have a few weeks of downtime, I’m going to have to change themes and re-do my website.

I’m probably going to change over to the “Toocheke” theme as it has the comic functionality built in.

Also interesting is that Toocheke has a plugin which apparently adds this comic functionality to other themes, so I may also try that – I’m not sure how well that will work.

Hope this helps – no idea why Jetpack suddenly did this but it’s a real pain.

I believe it was over in the Jetpack forums where I was able to get the answer about this so maybe do a search there. Jetpack was the culprit.

Thank you for this information. I love Panel theme and am sad this is the temp fix, but also grateful there is a temp fix. Question: how do I get a copy of the Jetpack Plugin version 13.7?

Both Jetpack and Panel are Automattic products so it would be nice to know which feature of Jetpack is causing the issue so we could choose to do individual Jetpack plugins and not include the one causing the issue. https://jetpack.com/blog/build-your-own-jetpack-now-with-individual-plugins/

I was able to restore a backup from August 2 and I’m using Jetpack 13.6.1.

I am going to eventually just download the Akismet and VaultPress plugins individually because I think it’s unlikely they are the culprit and that’s all I really need. Thank you again for your help!

Glad you resolved – I was able to get the earlier version of Jetpack from a backup.

I didn’t realize that both Panel and Jetpack were from the same developer… I know Panel has been unsupported for awhile but it’s actually a really nice, simple theme for webcomics which I quite like.

I would love to know if there is a way to make this work without having to change themes and re-design my current site…

Yep, both developed by Automattic. I’ll keep you posted. It might be in a month or so because I’m in the middle of a move but I feel the same. There is no other theme like Panel. It’s great and I don’t want to abandon it either. I think we’ll be able to keep it and Jetpack if we install select individual components of Jetpack (like Akismet only for example) but not everything but I’ll see…
