• Tweet This works great, and I really appreciate the work that you have done. I have a question though – when using PageSpeed to measure my site’s performance, it mentions that I should combine some images into CSS sprites.

Since I use the extended services option, I have a bunch of social media buttons at the bottom of every post, which is multiplied on the main page as it is shown for each post.

Any suggestions for what I can do? I can see that it might be a pain to update the plugin to create the images as a CSS sprite, since the order and selection of buttons is up to the user. Am I better off reducing the number of services I include, or is there some other strategy I can use to reduce the hit to my PageSpeed rating?

    Thanks!

  • I’m not familiar with this particular plug-in, but the very small images used for social-media bookmarking services are normally so light in file size (maybe a few K each) that I can’t imagine turning them into a CSS sprite will have much, if any, noticeable effect on page-loading time.

That said, if you really want a social-media bookmarking plug-in that uses sprites, you could check out Sexy Bookmarks. I use it on many sites and it works well:
