Combine post meta data and categories

Hello all, I would like to modify the Responsive theme so that the post metadata and the categories data is all on one line. So instead of:

“Posted on August 8, 2013 by Dan — No Comments ↓”

above the post excerpt, and

“Posted in Blog, Millwork”

below,

I would like it in one line between the title and excerpt, as follows:

“Posted on August 8, 2013 by Dan — No Comments | Posted in Blog, Millwork”

I know how to change the down arrow to a pipe character ?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
