Combine all posts per day show up in one post?

I’m trying to set up a small site where I post links and brief (10-20 word) descriptions of sites and stories I think are interesting. I’ll call each short description and link an “item” here. I would like to have all the “items” I make in a given day show up as a single post, and any added “items” just get put at the top of post. So if someone comes to my site and I’m set to show 5 days worth of posts, they see 5 posts, even if I posted 20 brief “items” today, 10 yesterday, 50 the day before, and so on.

Is there anything already out there that will let me do this? Bonus if it allows me to show the category after each “item” (I will be creating all “items” myself, and limit each “item” to a single category).

Does that make sense? And is there anything that can do what I want? I was looking at the codex, and it looks like the guide to displaying posts using a custom query will let me create this feature, but I’d like to not do this on my own if someone else already has something I can work with. I couldn’t find anything else via local search nor via google.
