• I manage around 50 wp sites and have SEO Ultimate on all of them. Great plugin!

Lately I’ve seen a lot of hits in the 404 monitor that end with example.com/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-
Obviously there are no pages by this name.
I’ve seen as many as 3500 attempts with over 40 user agents using /-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/-/- (and that’s going to slow down the server. Ack!)

I haven’t been able to find anything on forums or elsewhere online about this. Does anyone know what it is? Is it a hacking attempt? And if so, how do you block it?

I use Wordfence, but blocking an IP address is of limited use.

I am new to the forum. Before now, I’ve always found an answer without needing to register. But now I am stumped. Thanks for any help!

  • Hi,
ask in the WordFence forum, there have been other people with the same problem in the past. I don’t remember what exactly caused this, maybe some bot scanning.

Thanks for the response. I initially looked through Wordfence (not all 77 pages, but a lot). I didn’t see anything. I can try posting there.

I’ve run all kinds of searches and nothing comes up anywhere. That’s a first. Since this script comes up so often in the SEO Ultimate 404 error log, I can’t help thinking others are seeing this too.
