i added this to my css to get the effect i think you are looking for:#

.entry-content .widget_recent_entries li {
margin: 1% 1% 1% 1%;
float: left;
width: 48%;
clear: none;
}

PS. i used .entry-content because i used the plugin in my sidebar as well
