• My wife is using WP for her blog and I have been helping her with the geek stuff (although I’m quite useless and a beginner at best with PHP) Her blog is at https://www.sandriux.com but is far from finished. We do lots of traveling and have tons of vacations trips just from this and last year. Therefore we will have many subcategories under the travel section. Therefore I would like to make this section (and perhaps others) collapse and only show the subcategories “when active”.

So normally I would like it to would look like:

    Espanol
    Hakan
    Travel

Then when clicking on Travel it would show

    Espanol
    Hakan
    Travel
    -Italy
    -Etc
    -Etc

I have been trying the plugin at https://www.webspaceworks.com/wp-plugins/foldcategorylist.html
but can’t get it to work. When used the category list doesn’t even show the subcategories, they list as any regular main category. I have emailed the author but not heard back. I would love to get the functionality of this plugin to work.

Perhaps someone else has another solution for this problem?? What other solutions are there of I do lots of subcategories? A separate page with links to only travel trips? I searched the forum but did not see any solutions.

Thankful for any input from you WP gurus:-)

  • H,

Hi, I’m the author and did get your email, but the reply I sent bounced and I’ve only just now found this thread… so this is probably way too late now.

The plugin is still in early stage of development, but I did have the basics of folding working… it was the refinements that were lacking… Here below is the main body of my reply (dated 27 June):

… I’m a little puzzled as I made as few changes to the
underlying code as was necessary to get the collapsing to
work. That said however, this was rather more quickly put
together than the folding page list plugin and is
    incomplete, hence the ‘alpha’ status.

Could you provide me with a link where O can see the result
of your use of the plugin… or send me a dump of the html
code of the page that is generated… I’m unfamiliar with
the two themes you have used, but suspect that there is
something missing in the stylesheet that is causing this
    problem.

A link would be the easiest from which to diagnose a
problem, as I can then see the css as well….

    Rgds
