How can I force the menu to auto collapse when a page is opened on a mobile device? Or can I create a Mobile Menu for Mobile Device.

Currently when a page is opened the menu expands which hides the content of the page. The user just has to touch the page to collapse the menu but this is not how I want it to work.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • I was looking at demo for Twenty Sixteen and it looks like the default behaviour is for the menu to collapse automatically. It appears that something on your site (possibly a plugin) is interfering with that.

Interestingly enough, this only happens on touch screens. I tried narrowing down the viewport in my browser and your mobile menu does collapse correctly in my computer.

My recommendation would be to try deactivating other plugins and reactivate them one at a time to see if we can find which one is causing this. You can use this plugin to carry this troubleshooting without it affecting your public site (things will look normal to your visitors).

Let us know how that goes!

I have tried this to no avail! I am frustrated. Any other suggestions?

One alternative solution could be to install a plugin to add a separate responsive menu but, if you cannot identify and fix the underlying problem that’s causing this, it might end up affecting the new menu as well.

So, just to confirm, does the problem persist even if you deactivate ALL plugins?

I have looked at this again today and the thing I notice I in health check mode the menu items are not the same as not in health check mode. Why is this? I feel there is an issue with the menu. I have added CSS and wonder if this is affecting it.

Hi @carolineellison – if the menu does not look the same in Health Check mode – it suggests to me that it may be a plugin on the site that is affecting things.

If you follow @mrfoxtalbot’s instructions deactivating/activating plugins one by one – do you see that change take place when a specific plugin is activated?

    Hi

I have deactivated all the plugins and with them all deactivated the menu is not the same and does not recover as I go through enabling one by one the menus. I am still non the wiser and have the same issue. Very frustrating ??

If you are deactivating all other plugins (and assuming your do not have any custom code you added yourself elsewhere) you are taking all the correct steps.

My guess at this point is that you are facing either a caching issue or it has to do with your the set up in your hosting company.

    • Are you or is your hosting company using any cache system to speed up the site? If unsure, you might want to contact them.
    • Have you had this issue all along or did it start recently?

So in Healthcheck I did not get the result needed to see which plugin was causing the issue. After amazing knowlegde and support form you on this thread – thank you – I deactivated WP Rocket Plugin on my site live and the issue is resolved. My concern now is how to clear the cache on my site etc. Is there an alternative plugin recommended for this.

    Hi @carolineellison,

You shouldn’t need a solution for clearing page caching if you don’t have any caching plugin enabled.

Anyway, I do recommend you to have some page caching in most cases. Have you tried contacting the support team for WP Rocket?

This is generally a plugin with a good reputation, so I believe there might be a specific setting bringing up this issue.

So the issue was WP Rocket Plugin. I contacted them and with their support the culprit was in File Optimisation – Load JavaScript deferred

With Load JavaScript Deferred unselected the issue is resolved.

Thank you for the support, collectively this issue is now fixed. ??
