  • have you made any modifications to your theme’s files? have you added code to single.php or header.php?
    have you installed any new plugins or added code to functions.php?
    when did you noticed this issue?
    Is the issue persistent if you change themes?

    possibly caused by whatever code or plugin you are using for the meta description (in connection with a ‘like’ plugin?);

    the broken code shows in the html of your site in the browser:

    try to deactivate all plugins, to see if that removes the extra characters, then re-activate one plugin at a time and test inbetween to locate the interfering plugin(s)

    It is/was the LoginRadius Social Share plugin. I am using the plugin in conduction with the “widgets on pages” plugin. Those two together do not seem to like one another. When LoginRadius is deactivated — problem solved.
