My site was designed with the sidebar as a separate file, as I requested. Now I need to populate the sidebar.

I need the code for the following topics/headers, so it will populate by title: categories, archives, anything else you think is needed!

** Years ago I had dozens of sites and this was second nature to me. Due to devastating illness I have severe memory issues. The code may be simple but I can’t remember. I apologize for asking something so simple.

Could not find the edit button. Title should be sideBar

It’s easiest to add these to the sidebar simply by going to Appearance>Widgets, and then it’s drag and drop.

The sidebar usually is a separate file anyway, a template called sidebar.php. If that is still your sidebar file, you don’t need to change any code, you just need to go to Appearance>Widgets via the admin panel.

But if I do it that way — thank you — I won’t have a backup of the file if I screw up. My way I always have a backup .. just in case.
