code for google adsense

newbie here. forgive me if this is not the correct forum for this. if so, please direct me to the right one. i would like ads to appear in the side bar, beneath all the stuff already there (search, recent posts, recent comments, archives, and catgories). i understand you’re supposed to ad code to your site where you want the ads. how do i do that? thank you!
