COD not valid payment method

    Testing our new curbside shopping site using COD function because PayPal doesn’t allow seller protection with curbside shopping and local pick up (I digress). So… I did the following:

    General:
    Store Address inserted
    Shipping locations: Disable shipping and locations
    Default customer location: Shop base address
    Enable taxes: unchecked (no sales tax in Oregon)

    Payments:
    Enabled COD
    Clicked Set up/Manage
    Checked: Enable cash on delivery
    Title: Cash/Credit on Curbside Pick Up
    Description: Pay with cash/credit upon pickup
    Instructions: Pay with cash or credit/debit when you arrive at curbside pickup
    Enable local shipping: Any “local pickup” method
    Accept for virtual orders: unchecked (there are no virtual orders)

    In testing my site I get the following error messages.

    ? Sorry, it seems that there are no available payment methods for your state. Please contact us if you require assistance or wish to make alternate arrangements.
    ? Invalid payment method.

    Any helpful suggestions would be fabulous. Thank you in advance for your time.

    Digging around further I see that there is this in the status logs, about the same time I tried processing my first COD order.

    02-25-2021 @ 12:08:45 – There was an error trying sync products using the Catalog Batch API for job 3d4774a6013732c6d6d4dafd0ca66ae5: Cannot create the API instance because the access token is missing.

    Okay…so I figured it out from an article I found here:

    “….this kind of error comes when your address doesn’t match any shipping methods. So in-order to overcome this issue you just need to enable more shipping methods.”

    So i poked about and updated my shipping locations from disable shipping and shipping calculations to ship to specific countries. This seemed weird to me because it’s local pick up and we are not shipping but nevertheless IT WORKED, YAY!

    Now I just need to figure out how to make checkout simpler, don’t need all the billing information for COD. That’s for another day and forum topic ??

    Darn it. Thought I had this beat, I tested on another computer and I’m getting the error again. So I’m not sure what to do.

    Also, one last weird thing is the first (and only) successful order I had used my billing information. I never received an email notification of an order placed and when I went into “Orders” it showed the order but no customer information which would be the reason why I never received an email indicating that I received an order. So there’s that.

    If anyone knows how I can proceed I will be very grateful.

    I tried checking out just now on the site and ran into the same issue until I entered the street, city, state, and zip into the billing address.

    The COD option isn’t available until the address verifies that the customer is eligible for local pickup.

    What you might consider doing is changing the message so it doesn’t say there aren’t any payment methods available to one instructing them to enter their address first. You can do that with the Loco Translate plugin. It lets you alter text or “string” that are included in plugins by default.

    Let us know how that goes.

    Thank you for taking the time to test. I will need to test again, I’m not sure if you actually placed the order (which I would delete if you did knowing you were testing). When I was able to do a successful order, only once, I received no email for the order and the order was devoid of any customer information. I shall test again, thanks for the heads up on the Loco Translate plugin. I’ll keep you posted.

    I do appreciate your time into this issue. My deadline is fast approaching aaaaauuurrrggghhhh!

    Well okay, I was able to do a successful order complete with email. DOING HAPPY DANCE RIGHT NOW. Just need to figure out how to use Loco Translate to change the messaging which will certainly make it clearer to our customers. Oh my goodness, I might actually sleep well tonight. Thank you!!!

    I think that Loco Translate may be over my head (that’s an understatement). I’m going to consider my first issue resolved, as I’ve been able to test my original issue to perfection. Thank you everyone who helped me through this, I truly appreciate your time. Going to start a new topic.
