Co-Authors always listed alphabetically

It seems that WordPress is setting the authors alphabetically for some reason, regardless of what order you set them in the edit post screen, and regardless of who actually started the post.
Is this a plugin issue or a WP issue? No matter how I order them in the post edit screen, the authors always show up alphabetically, which makes it difficult to distinguish the primary author. I only noticed the issue popping up recently.
