Hi there! It appears that the Fixed Widget plugin is causing CLS issues in my primary sidebar according to Google Page Speed Insights. Will there be a fix for this prior to the Google Core update that is happening in May?

If you run any of my post links through GPSI you will see it pop up under ‘Avoid large layout shifts.’ I need to get that CLS contribution number under 0.1 and right now the Fixed Widget plugin is contributing over 0.7.

    Thanks!

    Hi shanemery,

    thanks for reaching out.

I am a bit confused about why Google might even consider the fixed widget since it is not moving anything around, especially not without scrolling. Anyway, you are not the first to mention this and we are already working on a completely different approach to making the widgets sticky. Right now, I cannot say if that approach will change anything CLS-related nor when it will be ready. It is at least as frustrating to me as to users and we will do our best considering this is a completely free plugin.

In the end, it might turn out that the concept of fixed widgets is penalized and there is no technical solution.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Okay, thank you for the update @webzunft. It would definitely be awesome if the CLS problem was solved as it’s a great plugin otherwise.
