Closing X in in pictures

I am not sure what you mean by the small X to close them ? Is this a Lightbox that you open when clicking on them? If so you need to ask the Lightbox plugin author.

But as general note, uploading or adding images is not at all related to the theme.

that’s exactly what I mean.

I don’t use a plugin for this, but the core version of WordPress. The images are then inserted as a file in the normal way using the Gutenberg editor.

To the best of my knowledge the is no Lightbox built into WordPress and GP doesn’t add one either.
If you want to share a link to a page where i can see the problem, i can take a look and provide some pointers.

Which images are opening the lightbox ? Any images i click on, it asks if i want to download them….

You have the Simple Lightbox ( or equivalent ) Plugin on your website.
You will need to check with the plugin author how to make ALL images open in the light box.
