I’ve built a self-hosted site for a client (using Modernize theme) here.

We have recently discovered that the updates he has made to the site since October 2012, using his Mac at work, have never been published live to the public. When he makes an edit to the site using his Mac at work, the changes show on the front end of the site in several browsers on his mac – so he has been content that everyone can see these changes.

Following a disagreement with a 3rd party over what his own website stated/showed, and then checking on a smartphone, he has now realised that the changes he makes on his site are only updating and showing in browsers on his Mac. If he logs into the site as himself on a different PC or Mac on the same LAN network at his place of work, he has the same issues.

I can happily make changes to the site as administrator and they are correctly updated to the site for all to see. I have tried disabling all plugins then getting him to attempt content updates – to no avail.

We have no caching plugins installed and I’ve shown him how to enable Safari web developer tools and to disable caching and to empty caches – again to no avail.

Can a wordpress user account become ‘corrupted’ or similar? He was set up as Editor together with a single modification using the ‘user roles’ plugin so he could edit the main menu, but as I’ve stated – nothing changed wen we disabled plugins. I’ve changed him to Administrator and it has no effect upon the issue.

He has sent me a screen grab of the revisions panel at the bottom of a page which shows many changes to that page since May 2012. Wen I login and view the same revisions panel, I can only see the revisions up to May 2012.

Finally, I wanted to see if I too experienced the same problems on my computers if I was logged in a him. i.e. login using his UN/PW details. However I’m unable to do this as when I use the details he assures me are correct they simply do not work at wp-login.php . It seems that only he can login using those details on his Mac at work.

So I have a feeling his user profile/account is compromised/broken – is this possible? In the meantime I will set up another editor profile for him to try.

    Appreciate any suggestions.

Sounds like a LAN cache; tell him to ask his network techs.

His network guy says this might explain why he can see the updates on his Mac but wouldn’t explain why others at his office don’t see the updates.

He has confirmed that his user account/profile/login experiences problems when he logs into it but on another pc on the network. He makes updates that show in backend but dont display on front end on that pc.

I’ve also created a new administrator account on the site and provided him these details but he is unable to login using these details supplied on his own mac. However he is able to login using these details on another pc/mac in the office.

Does this help refine the potential cause?

It’s a Local Area Network cache. It’s a network problem in the office. And/or something with that one Mac. It’s not WordPress.

When he’s on a colleagues PC (using their windows login) using the new admin WordPress account, he can make edits and they are published OK for all to see.

He is unable to sign into wordpress using the new admin account when he is logged into windows using his own windows account.

Does that shed any more light or do you still think the same way?

Sounds like a problem with that one Mac

It’s very difficult or impossible to diagnose a LAN network problem from a distance. And these forums are for WordPress, not network issues.

He is unable to sign into wordpress using the new admin account when he is logged into windows using his own windows account.

when he is logged into windows using his own windows account: that’s obviously a windows account problem on the windows box.

You were absolutely right and your hunch/knowledge pointed us in the right direction.

This, combined with the recognition that the last update the the client did that worked was just prior to us moving the webhosting to another platform. His mac was for some reason still trying to see the site at the old hosts!

    Many many thanks.

I am having the same issue as described in the original post — updates only show when I am logged into my computer. If I am logged out, the latest post that shows is from over a month ago (Feb. 9), even though new content has been made since then. Page edits are also mysteriously absent when I am not logged in.

What’s the deal here? Any thoughts?

@bml – it’s generally better to stick with your own thread rather than one that is already marked resolved. For something like this, it’s almost certainly not an identical situation.
