• Before I go and write one, anyone know of a plugin where like I can click a Quicktag button and it’ll pop-up a window with all similies where I can click them and insert them into my post?

    I looked at https://dev.wp-plugins.org/ , but didn’t see one.

  • There have been many requests for a popup window with all the smilies in just as you describe. Right now I do not recall a plugin … but then one may exists somewhere. I would say it would be welcome ??

I can see this being welcomed by many and wil probably have posts filled with smileys. As long as you allow the user to replace existing smileys (I guess just replacing the image would work) and adding their custom code) as they will inevitably want it.

I suck at web design. Someone make my pop-up window pretty!

    Here’s what I have so far: https://linked.viper007bond.com/wp-smilies-popup-0.1_BETA.zip

Stole a lotta the code outta Martin Chlup??c’s IImage Browser plugin ( https://fredfred.net/skriker/index.php/iimage-browser ) since I suck at Javascript and WP plugins.

Anyway, it’s ugly, barely works, oh well. Someone feel free to spruce it up.

I too was looking for a clickable-smiley plugin, but found none. I tried yours, Viper, but it’s not what I am looking for. First off, a pop-up is crap with firefox/tabbrowser extensions – since it opens up in a new tab and isn’t convenient at all.

Second, it only provides the default smiley-tags.

How about a plugin that actually looks in the smiley directory to see what is there, and present them with pictures directly in the admin interface? Just like any (proper) forum.

That way I wont have to rename every single smiley too match the original, nor be bound to the default emoticons.

Is there anyone who would like to take a shot at it?

I tried it out Maven, but it doesn’t want to work with custom smileys. Is there any workaround?

I use smilies that I added, along with expressions.
Is it a permissions issue ?
Do you see the text, not the image ?

To use custom smilies, you must upload them to the correct directory and then edit the file ‘vars.php’ too. have you done that ?
(This is tricky to follow as posts are in more than one thread)

Permissions are alright. I do see the text. If I rename one of “my” smilies to one of the original names, it shows up.

The plugin is working, it just doesn’t work with custom stuff. That’s my problem.

“I use the smilies I added, along with expressions.”

What expressions are you talking about?

Okay. I saw something about the vars.php earlier today. I checked it out and there were a list of the smiley filenames and their ascii-emoticon representation.

Can I add my own stuff to that list?

    Thank you! Sleep tight.

Mine just pulls it right from the smilies list array. It should work fine with custom smilies.

And again, I know it’s ugly, I just threw it together using another plugin is an example so that someone else could expand on it.
