Hi there, I like how Helpie FAQ Search filters items with the keywords, but have a couple suggestions that I think would help with usabiltiy:

    1. it would be nice to have a button to clear the search field and show all of the FAQ items again.
    2. it would be nice if the search terms were highlighted so the user can quickly find what they’re looking for

    Thanks!

    Hi Brian,

    1. Helpie search works just as how every search filters works. You type something – the filter brings the relevant items. You remove what you typed (using Backspace or delete), it brings back all the FAQ items again. A button is necessary for that?? Please clarify so that I could understand your question better.

    2. Sure. We could add this to our backlog. Though I cannot promise an exact timeline for this now, I will make sure to let you know once this is pushed up.

    Kind Regards.

Thanks for your response @pauplesupport. BTW, I should have mentioned that I think Helpie FAQ is a fantastic plugin!

    1. I don’t think a clear search button is absolutely necessary, but I think it could help some users that don’t really understand that the results are being filtered. For instance, I have 5 categories, and if I type in a few letters that don’t find a match, my FAQ page only contains category headings with no FAQs – it looks like an empty FAQ page. Most users would realize that it’s being filtered and that they have to backspace for the FAQs to show up again, but an optional Clear Search button would make it more obvious. Another solution may be to have a default message to display under each category title if no FAQs match the search term. I just wonder if some distracted or less savvy users will understand that this page is being filtered: https://share.getcloudapp.com/Z4uy0Xgv. Of course this isn’t a huge deal, but I’m curious what sort of feedback I’m going to hear once this goes live.

One other thing I’m wondering… is it possible to sort the Category order on the FAQ page?

    Thanks!

    Hi There,

Thanks much for your feedback. It means a lot to us.

    1. Just to clarify one thing, while searching a term, the search filter should bring only the category that applies to the FAQ. It should not bring other categories. This is a bug on our end and we have already fixed it. It would be up for our coming release.

    2. However, we would consider this clear search button seeing how many customers would really find this useful and we will start building this soon. Thanks much for taking time to share this with us. It really means a lot.

    3. For sorting the category order, I suggest you to use a free plugin called “Intuitive custom order”. Once you enable FAQ categories in their settings, you can order the FAQ categories in any way you wish.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    Kind Regards.

That’s great @pauplesupport, thanks for the detailed response. I’m glad to hear that only categories for relevant search items will be displayed – that’s a better solution that what I suggested.

One thing that I did for my project was make the Search field sticky so that on mobile, as the user scrolls down, they can see that the FAQ is being filtered. It’s easy enough to do with CSS, but it might be a nice option to have.

    Hi Brian,

    1. Noted. Thanks much for the suggestion. I have added this to our backlog. I will make sure to let you know once this is pushed up.

    2. We have fixed the search issue in our latest update. Can you please update the plugin and confirm it?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Kind Regards.

@pauplesupport Thanks for letting me know. Yes, I can confirm the search issue is fixed. I really like how this works now. ??

IMHO, one slight improvement would be to display a message if there’s no results rather than showing a completely blank page, but I think most people can figure it out.

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for the suggestion. We would add this to our backlog. I will make sure to let you know once this is pushed.

And, please do leave us a five star rating if you feel we deserve it. It would encourage us a lot.

    Kind Regards.

When I remove what I typed, it didn’t brings back all the FAQs again. I also think a back button would be useful.

    Hi There,

Thanks much for your suggestion for the back button. This is still in consideration on verifying how many customers would need this. I will make sure to let you know once this is pushed up.

But removing what you typed should bring back all your faq’s again. I have also verified this again in my local, and it’s working really fine. If that’s not the case on your end, could you please send me your website details and temporary admin access to your site so that I could check this down?

You can send us your details by creating a ticket at pauple.freshdesk.com.

    Waiting to hear from you.

    Kind Regards.

?But removing what you typed should bring back all your faq’s again.?

    not really, see https://d.pr/v/nOP2Kt

    Hi There,

We have already fixed it on our development end and is ready for our coming release.

I will make sure to let you know once the release is pushed up.

@aportmann @pauplesupport My experience has been that if you select all of the text in the search box and backspace to delete it (I think most people will do this), the faq list is not restored. The list will be restored as you backspace one character at a time though.

    thx

    Brian,

We have fixed that one also in our coming release. We are releasing it this Monday. I will make sure to let you know once the release is done.

    Kind Regards.
