Cleaning up the root directory?

Hi all,

Apologies in advance for such a newb question but I’m completely new to all this- I’ve done a search and didn’t find the right answer so… I’ve attached a jpg to try to explain this better.

_Cleaning up my root directory, trying to find out which ones need to stay

_Will moving the other wp files/folders into a single folder in the root directory make my website nonfunctional?

_The reason for this to clean up my directory because I noticed trying to create a gallery on my posts had the images uploaded into an “upload” folder of that specific post. I would rather have it all organized in an “img” folder in my root directory.
